Which traffic laws apply to bicyclists and in-line skaters?
The same laws that apply to drivers of motor vehicle apply to bicyclists and in-line skaters.
Bicyclists and skaters must obey all traffic signals, signs and pavement markings. Bicyclists must also signal for turns when they ride roadways, bike lanes or bike paths. Bicycle riders and skaters who violate the law can receive traffic tickets. Parents can be held responsible for violations by their minor children.
Motorists must obey the rules of the road with respect to bicyclists and skaters. Motor vehicle drivers must yield the right of way to bicyclists and skaters the same as they would to other drivers.
The Governor's Traffic Safety Committee web site has safety information for bicyclists and in-line skaters
