Question What is the Brownfields Cleanup Program?

Answer New York State established the Brownfield Cleanup Program to address the environmental, legal and financial barriers that often hinder the reclamation and reuse of contaminated properties. The Voluntary Cleanup Program is a cooperative approach among the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, other state and local agencies, financial lenders such as banks, developers and prospective purchasers to investigate and clean up contaminated sites. The joint goal is for all the interested parties to work together to return these sites to environmentally safe and productive use.
