What is the Protected Native Plants Program?
The New York State Protected Native Plants Program was created in 1989. The program works to protect certain plants that are categorized as endangered, threatened, rare, or exploitably vulnerable. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation works closely with numerous other government agencies and private groups to protect these plants and to educate the public about the environmental benefits of native plants.
