Does filing for bankruptcy mean I can never qualify for the state's morgage assistance program?
A prior bankruptcy doesn't automatically preclude you from obtaining a mortgage from the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA). SONYMA does require that at least three years have passed since your bankruptcy was discharged. In addition, you must re-establish good credit and have a satisfactory explanation for your bankruptcy. Click on More Info below for details on bankruptcy and how it could effect your SONYMA application.
