Are boiler operators required to be licensed or certified? What types of boilers are required to be inspected and whom do I call for welded repairs?
There is no New York State requirement for the licensing or certification of high or low-pressure boiler operators. However, many cities in the state do require licensed boiler operators. All boilers, except those located in dwellings of five or less families, are required to be inspected. No portion of the building used as a dwelling can be used commercially to claim this exemption. All low-pressure boilers less than 100,000 BTUs/hour are exempt from inspection. Any company in possession of a New York State Welded Repair Certificate of Authorization, a National Board Repair Certificate of Authorization or an A.S.M.E. Certificate of Authorization can perform certified welded boiler repairs.
