My relative recently died. (S)he was receiving services from a mental health or mental retardation and developmental disabilities program. How can I be sure that (s)he received appropriate medical care before his/her death?
Programs which provide services to individuals with mental illness, mental retardation, or developmental disabilities are generally required to report deaths to the Commission on Quality of Care. The Commission reviews these reports and, in the cases of deaths that may be other than natural, conducts investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, at times with the assistance of our Mental Hygiene Medical Review Board. If you would like to discuss the investigation into your relative's death, contact the Commission.
