What should I do before I hire a moving company?

 For moves entirely within New York State, find out if the mover is licensed by the New York State Department of Transportation; for moves between New York State and another state, find out if the mover is licensed by the Federal Highway Administration. To be licensed, movers must meet insurance, safety and financial standards.
