What can New York State do to assist welfare recipients in entering the workforce?
New York State oversees state and local employment programs under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program, the USDA Food Stamp Employment and Training Program, as well as the State’s Safety Net Program. Beginning in April 2000, New York also began implementing employment programs serving families and individuals at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Available employment services include work experience, targeted jobs skills training and job placement services. Please contact your nearest local one-stop for more information.
