Who investigates inmate deaths in New York State?

 The New York State Commission of Correction's Forensic Medical Unit conducts an investigation into all inmate deaths which occur in New York State correctional facilities as required by law. This information is then reviewed by the Medical Review Board which establishes the cause and circumstances of every death and makes recommendations for improving the care to detainees and sentenced offenders.
